Legal Help For Children and Families
The Child Advocacy Project (CAP), a resource that helps children
with special needs fulfill their potential. CAP provides free
legal advice and representation to children with special needs.
CAP is designed to help families whose children are not receiving
the level of special education support to which they are legally
entitled. CAP lawyers help families understand their legal
rights. They also help to negotiate and mediate solutions with schools
and school boards, and accompany families to Identification Placement
and Review Committee (IPRC) meetings when necessary. As well,
CAP lawyers represent children who are at risk of unfair suspension
or expulsion – as can be the case for children with special needs.
